Dry Shade Gardening

Jon Hawley of Chicweed will discuss and demonstrate how to design a dry shade garden that is colorful, lush and low-water use. Jon will cover plant selection, including his favorite low light varieties, placement, care and maintenance. He will also discuss how boulders, rocks, and dry creek beds can be incorporated to add a natural look and additional water savings.

Jon Hawley is a licensed Landscape Contractor and Designer at Chicweed in Solana Beach. He is featured in Debra Lee Baldwin’s book, Succulents Simplified, demonstrating how to design a low light succulent container arrangement. In his 5 years with Chicweed, Jon has designed and installed landscapes for shade, partial sun, and full sun, as well as dry creek beds and vertical gardens. Chicweed specializes in succulent and waterwise landscape design using an artistic approach that combines texture, shape and color to create personalized outdoor living spaces.
