Highlights of Tour

  • A special presentation and a walking tour by SDHS member Chris Drayer, Landscape Architect. Chris was involved in the planning and design of the 40 acres of grounds from 1980 to 1996.
  • Enjoy a leisurely spa-cuisine lunch in the grand Spanish Colonial dining room.
  • Private tour of the vegetable garden, Rancho Tres Estrellas, the six-acre Organic Farm by the charismatic head gardener Salvador Tinajero. The farm is a vibrant tapestry of orchards, intensively planted raised beds, and herbs - all of them managed via the organic and sustainable practices that have guided the Ranch for seventy years.
  • You will visit La Cocina Que Canta (The Kitchen that Sings), a custom built 4,500 square foot hacienda style cooking school. There will be a cooking demo and snacks before your return to San Diego around 6pm.

Other Information

  • Participants must have a valid passport to board bus (and return to U.S.)RLP Passport
  • Dress Casually. Wear comfortable shoes. There is a fair amount of walking. The terrain includes some steps, slightly uneven brick paths, rustic tile floors and “out in the rows” of the vegetable garden. Consider bringing sun screen and a hat to guard against the afternoon sun.
  • The drive to Rancho La Puerta is a very scenic road through mountains, but also very curvy in many parts. Consider a motion-sickness medication if you are prone to uneasiness.
  • SDHS Organizers and guides, Pat Harrison and Bruce Mutz, will meet and greet us at RLP.Voted World's Best Destination Spa Travel + Leisure reader's Poll
