FEBRUARY MEETING

Spiny Succulents with Jeff Moore, Solana Succulents

Join us for a wonderful evening with the ever popular speaker, local expert and San Diego Horticultural Society member, Jeff Moore of Solana Succulents, as he showcases the subject of his newest book, Spiny Succulents.

He will discuss relevant care issues for cacti, euphorbias, pachypodiums, alluauadias, terrestrial bromeliads, and a few other primarily but not exclusively spiny succulent genera, concentrating on plants in cultivation in California and Arizona, with habitat information added for context. Of particular interest will be some of the extraordinary crested, variegated, or otherwise abnormal growth in many of these plants, and the breathtaking floral displays of some cacti. Jeff will offer tips and tales from the nursery trade, talk about growers and collectors, how to deal with spines, etc.

Jeff has owned and operated Solana Succulents since 1992, and this is his fourth book on succulents. He is currently working with Jeremy Spath and Kelly Griffin on a Dudleya book, which is at least two years away. Jeff is married, has two grown sons, is still enthusiastic about the plants and enjoys making books.
