The Featured Garden for July is the colorful, seaside themed garden of Lynlee Austell, a lifelong gardener, sustainable landscape expert, and UCCE Master Gardener. Her love of gardening on the site since 1992 shows in the colorful and artistic hardscape, the use of Waterwise semi-tropical plants creating a tropical paradise.

The house was remodeled in 2 phases.  The first was joining the small front house with the rear garage + studio and building a master bedroom and deck above the garage.  The second was 10 years later to make the front part of the house match the back with a new roof, hardscape and terrace.  Lynlee’s husband is a civil engineer.  He designed the drainage and installed the irrigation system which she now maintains.  For the front hardscape, she gathered a handful of soil from the cliffs down the street and had the contractor match it.

The garden also features passive rain water collection with redirection of runoff into planting beds, so that no runoff goes into the street or sidewalk.

Join us to escape the heat and enjoy the ocean views at this artistic and waterwise garden.
